Welding and Cutting operations can present serious physical and health hazards if not recognized and controlled.
 
This program highlights the main components and exposures pertaining to these operations.  The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) is available to departments as they develop and evaluate procedures appropriate for the location or activities.

Training

  • Hot Work Permit Tutorial - WRM001
    • Anyone conducting Hot Work operations on University of Iowa property (including designated Hot Work locations) must complete this course annually.
    • Establishes a consistent campus-wide program to reduce the risk of injuries and loss by fire caused by Hot Work activities.
    • Discusses the approved Hot Work locations on campus.
    • Explains the University of Iowa Hot Work permit that must be used on campus and how to fill it out properly.
    • Explains the process to become authorized to perform Hot Work on campus.
  • Welding and Cutting - W193OS
    • Course is focused on welding and cutting hazards and controls. Required initially and recommended annually. To finish your training requirement, you must also know specific information unique to your own work area. Use the Site-Specific Training checklist located within the course content to review site-specific training items with your supervisor or designated work area trainer.
    • Audience: Employees operating welding and cutting equipment.
