Updates to EHS safety programs and manuals
The following updates were made over the past year:
- Chemical Hygiene Plan was updated to include additional UIHC emergency room and occupational health clinic locations.
- Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan template was updated as follows:
- Page 13. Updated link for work related injuries: https://ehs.research.uiowa.edu/emergencies/work-related-illnessinjury.
- Page 14. Updated link for EHS training: https://ehs.research.uiowa.edu/ehs-safety-training-information.
- Page 49. Removed the link for OSHA booklet on How to Prevent Needlestick Injuries as this content is no longer available.
- Biological Safety Manual was updated as follows:
- Page 24 and Page 86. Updated contact for biosafety cabinet issues to Associate Biosafety Officer (319-467-4403 or bio-cabinet@uiowa.edu).
- Page 34. Updated Section V “Biosafety Level Criteria” to specify that containment level for recombinant organisms is set by the NIH Guidelines.
- Page 96. Updated the link for the EHS website: https://ehs.research.uiowa.edu/.
- Page 100. Updated the process for obtaining a medical evaluation following an exposure incident.
- Guidance for completing the inserts, vectors, and hosts table was updated to list current rDNA program contacts.
- Select Agent and Toxin Use Manual was updated as follows:
- Updated permissible toxin amounts for short, paralytic alpha conotoxins.
- Changed "CDC" to "FSAP" where appropriate.
- Changed "exempt toxin" to "permissible toxin amounts" and "non-exempt toxin" to "regulated toxin amounts."
