Due to staffing levels in EHS, the annual safety review process will be altered starting May 2025 and will be effective at least through the end of the calendar year. The new process will consist of a self-inspection via email and a separate lab safety round.
An EHS safety advisor will email the principal investigator (PI) and designated lab contact (if available) at the time the lab review is due to request an update to the Training Needs Assessment. Lab staff should complete the assessment as normal and return this to their safety advisor. The safety advisor will send a training deficiency report along with the self-inspection and guidance on required documentation to lab staff. The completed self-inspection and required documentation, as applicable, must be returned to the safety advisor. Any deficiencies, including training, should be resolved within the standard 30-day period. Labs may request an in-person meeting following our standard procedure, if desired. New labs to the university and those newly inactive will receive an in-person meeting following our standard procedure for annual reviews or inactive laboratories. Lab safety rounds will also be completed for those labs receiving the self-review following our standard procedure.
Any questions can be directed to your safety advisor. If Sarah H. or Jen H. was previously your advisor and you have not been in contact with a new EHS team member, please email Haley Sinn with any questions.
