SAFETYmatters - UI Procedures for IOSHA inquiries and Inspections

University-wide procedures are in place to provide a consistent institutional response to potential health and safety issues raised by Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Iowa OSHA) and to implement timely action to ensure a safe environment for University employees.

If a representative of Iowa OSHA contacts or presents him/herself to your department, the department should do the following:

  • Immediately notify EHS at 335-8501.
  • All UIHC departments shall notify UIHC Safety and Security at 356-3526.
    • UIHC Safety and Security should in turn notify EHS.

Iowa OSHA is the state of Iowa’s regulatory agency charged with enforcing worker safety laws. Iowa OSHA applies OSHA standards (29 CFR Parts 1910 and 1926) as adopted by the Iowa Workforce Development, Division of Labor. This agency investigates safety and health complaints in construction and general industry, fatalities/catastrophes and performs general scheduled inspections.

Procedural details for onsite inspections and inquiries are detailed on the EHS website: https://ehs.research.uiowa.edu/ui-procedures-osha-inquiries-and-inspections .
