The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently introduced new regulations for the use of methylene chloride (dichloromethane, DCM) and methylene chloride containing chemicals. The new regulations require exposure monitoring, implementation of a Workplace Chemical Protection Program, and creation of an Exposure Control Plan for all areas that use methylene chloride.
Over the next several months EHS will be contacting all the areas that have methylene chloride on their chemical inventory to schedule a meeting to discuss their methylene chloride use and develop a sampling plan for the exposure monitoring requirement. If you would like to go ahead and schedule a meeting, email the EHS industrial hygienist, Justin Newnum, to do so.
