Jim began his career at the University of Iowa in 1986 as a Chemist I in the Environmental Health and Safety Office after joining the department the prior year as an environmental waste student employee. Jim serves as the University’s Environmental Programs Manager, overseeing compliance for hazardous waste disposal across campus. Jim also provides hazardous waste disposal services to University of Iowa Health Care and start-up companies located at the BioVentures Center at Oakdale. Jim has also served as EHS's Assistant Director since 2018, overseeing the radiation safety section.
On behalf of the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Environmental Health and Safety Office and the UI research community, we wish to thank Jim for his commitment to the UI community and wish him the best for a happy retirement.
Tim Weber, Environmental Programs Assistant Manager, will serve as the Interim Environmental Programs Manager. Nyree Mortensen, Biosafety Officer, will serve as the Interim EHS Assistant Director.
