EHS will be presenting a session of “Conducting a Hazard Analysis” in October 2022. This course is open to any member of the University of Iowa who works in a research and/or wet lab, but it is required for those applying for the Laboratory Safety Certificate.
Hazard Assessments are a way of analyzing procedures to identify and preemptively manage the hazards inherent in all aspects of the procedure. This class will discuss how to conduct a hazard assessment as well as different ways of organizing the assessment process. For those applying for the Laboratory Safety Certificate, a follow-up project will require that the individual create a hazard assessment for a current procedure in their own laboratory, using one of the five methods of assessment covered in class.
The course will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, October 11th, at 9 a.m. All those interested in attending should e-mail Rachelle Justice.
The Laboratory Safety Certificate was new in Fall 2021. EHS, in collaboration with the Laboratory Safety Committee, recognizes individuals who take an active role in safety and go above and beyond the training required by EHS. Those interested in qualifying for a Laboratory Safety Certificate can gain more information about the program on the EHS website.
