The Radiation Section at EHS recently hired Robert Keene as a Health Physicist. If you have worked at the University of Iowa for twenty years or more, you may remember Robert (who also goes by Chris) from when he worked in the Radiation Section in the early 2000s. Since leaving the University of Iowa in 2003, Robert has worked primarily in the nuclear power industry, and more recently in decommissioning of nuclear power plants. He completed his master’s degree in Health Physics in 2012 and became a Certified Health Physicist in 2018. Robert brings extensive health physics experience (back) to the University. His primary duties will include x-ray machine testing, shielding evaluations, and laser safety audits.
Fun facts about Robert include:
- He and his family live in an old one-room schoolhouse that they have converted into their home.
- He once drove an armored car (the kind filled with money).
- He and his family collect board games and at one point had over 500!
So be sure to say “hi” to Robert (Chris) when you see him at the hospital or out on campus. We are excited to have him back at the University of Iowa!
