Gretchen Cleve recently joined EHS as a biological safety coordinator. Gretchen earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Iowa. Previously Gretchen worked in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and before that, at IDT in Coralville. Gretchen will be a member of the Safety Advisory Team and will perform annual lab reviews. In addition, Gretchen will be responsible for our biosafety cabinet program and congruency reviews. Outside of work, Gretchen likes to spend time with her dog Hugo. Gretchen also enjoys time outdoors, gardening, and is a dedicated aunt. Gretchen can be reached at 319-335-1671.
Jessica Miller has recently joined EHS as an environmental safety coordinator. Jessica holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with a minor in biology from the University of Iowa. She also completed a study abroad program in sustainable chemistry at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and the University of Freiburg (Germany). Jessica’s primary responsibilities will be with chemical, biohazardous, and radioactive waste collection and management. In her free time, Jessica enjoys watching motorsports, playing the drums and spending time outdoors. Jessica can be reached at 319-335-2674.
Elisabeth Moriarty joins EHS as a Radiation Safety Specialist. Elisabeth earned her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Iowa. She is currently working on her master’s degree in radiological physics. Elisabeth comes to us with many years of experience testing diagnostic x-ray equipment against FDA and Joint Commission standards. Elisabeth’s responsibilities include x-ray machine testing at UIHC and will likely be involved in our laser safety program. Elisabeth has two young daughters, so she doesn’t have a lot of time for hobbies, but she does play viola, enjoys singing, gardening, and likes to do celebrity impersonations. Jann Johnson, Radiation Safety Specialist, will retire on July 11th. Jann is a graduate of the University of Iowa. He began his career at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1983 as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Jann left the University for a few years then returned to campus to work in radiation safety within EHS. We wish to thank Jann for his 26 years of service to the UI community and congratulate him on his retirement!
