SAFETYmatters - EHS Director, Carol McGhan, set to retire

Carol McGhan, Director of the Environmental Health & Safety Office (EHS), will retire on February 2, 2018 after more than 39 years working at the University of Iowa. Haley Sinn, Assistant Director/Biological Safety Officer, will serve as Interim EHS Director.     

An open house celebration of Carol’s career is scheduled for
Tuesday, January 30, 3 – 5 pm
in the Robert P. Kelch conference room - 1289 Carver Biomedical Research Building (CBRB).


Carol began her career as a Public Health Microbiologist for the University Hygienic Laboratory, now called the State Hygienic Laboratory.  She moved to the Health Protection Office (HPO), now called Environmental Health & Safety, in 1991 and served in several positions, including Biological Safety Professional, Manager of the Occupational Safety Section, and Manager of the Biological Safety Section.  She has served as the EHS Director since September 2008.  In addition, Carol has served on national professional organizations and many university committees.  As the Director of EHS, she provides leadership and direction for campus-wide environmental health and safety programs.
