SAFETYmatters - Chemical Waste Labeling Reminder

When labeling chemicals in the original container for disposal, please DO NOT cover up information on the original label.  This is especially important for the following: chemical name, supplier, catalog number, and ingredients. Examples of poorly placed labels are shown below:

The best locations to attach labels are usually across the bottom, top, or along the side of the container where the labels will not cover valuable information needed to ensure safe disposal. Wrapping the label around the container cap is also acceptable. If you find that a container is too small to attach a label without covering the original label, set completed labels (without peeling the backing off) near the containers for disposal.  EHS staff will attach a tag (with the label on it) to the container.
