SAFETYmatters - Liquids in Biohazardous Waste Tubs

While performing red (biohazadous) tub audits last month, EHS came across multiple tubs where liquid had leaked out of the liner and pooled in the bottom of the tub. Biohazardous waste tubs must not have any containers holding free liquids placed in them. Please make sure you are not disposing of containers of free liquid or inadvertently adding liquid into the tubs while disposing of waste in red tubs. If you do have sample vials with liquids, either add a solidifier such as Isolyser, or pour the liquids off into another container, or down the drain as appropriate before adding the vials to the red tubs.
