Don’t let the hot weather outside give you frostbite in the lab. Cryogens, such as liquid nitrogen, remain a cold temperature hazard, regardless of the summer heat. They are extremely cold and will freeze exposed tissue on contact.
When handling liquid nitrogen (LN), or other cryogens, be sure to wear appropriate clothing and PPE.
YES: long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes that cover the entire foot, loose-fitting thermal gloves, and chemical splash goggles.
NO: shorts, short skirts, sandals, peep-toe shoes, tank tops, etc.
