Continuing Review Notices for approved rDNA Registration Documents

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews and approves recombinant DNA (rDNA) research conducted at the University.  rDNA Registration Documents are submitted through the eIBC (eibc.research.uiowa.edu) and are approved for three years.  In accordance with the NIH Guidelines, all approved documents must be reviewed annually by the PI until expiration.  A new registration document must be submitted if the PI will continue the research after three years.

Each subsequent year following approval, an automated Continuing Review email is sent to the PI and authorized users (Proxys), requesting that the document be reviewed, an appropriate response be marked and the email returned to Biosafety Staff. For all PIs or Proxys, this is the easiest way to make the following changes to a protocol:

  1. Update (add or remove) personnel on a protocol
  2. Title change
  3. Funding change

These changes can be indicated on the appropriate line of the return email and Biosafety Staff will update your protocol accordingly.  The addition of staff requires that all applicable trainings are complete.  More substantive changes to the rDNA Registration Document will require the submission of an amendment through the eIBC.
