The federal government recently released the U.S. Government Policy for Stopping High-Risk Life Sciences Research, a new framework that prohibits federally funded dangerous gain-of-function (DGOF) research and establishes enhanced oversight requirements for certain high-risk life sciences research activities. The policy also addresses International Research of Concern (IROC) by restricting federal funding for life sciences research conducted in countries of concern or by institutions and individuals of concern outside the United States. 

The policy replaces previous federal oversight frameworks and introduces new expectations for researchers, institutions, and funding agencies. 

To help investigators stay informed, EHS has launched a new High-Risk Life Sciences Research webpage that provides an overview of the policy and will serve as the central location for information related to the University's implementation of the new policy. 

The University is currently reviewing the policy and assessing what updates may be needed to institutional procedures, training, and oversight processes. Federal agencies are expected to issue additional implementation guidance, and the University is awaiting this information before finalizing any policy changes. Updates will be posted to the webpage as they become available.
