3D Printing

3D printing is the additive manufacturing technology of making three dimensional objects by depositing successive layers of material under computer control.

The basic requirements for safely operating 3D printers at the University can be found in the 3D Printer Safety Fact Sheet. More detailed information on safely operating a 3D printer can be found in UL 200B - Safe Use of 3D Printing for Institutions of Higher Education. This guidance document was created as a collaboration between Chemical Insights Research Institute of UL Research Institutes and Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) and represents the current best practices in safe 3D printer use.
